AIMSA Writes to EAM Jaishankar, Seeks Immediate Evacuation of Indian Students from Tehran
New Delhi, Mar 1, KNT: The All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA) has written to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressing serious concern over the safety of Indian students currently studying in Tehran amid reports of explosions and escalating tensions in Iran.
In its communication to the Ministry of External Affairs, AIMSA urged the Government of India to take urgent steps to ensure the safety and possible evacuation of Indian students from the Iranian capital.
Vice President AIMSA Dr Mohammad Moomin Khan said that several Indian students enrolled at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, including students from the Kerman campus, have been continuously contacting him, expressing fear and distress.
He stated that students reported hearing explosions outside their campus and described the situation as alarming. According to Dr Khan, many students claimed that university authorities were not permitting them to leave the campus premises despite growing anxiety over security conditions.
AIMSA has appealed to the External Affairs Ministry to immediately assess the ground situation through the Indian Embassy in Tehran and initiate contingency measures, including evacuation if required. The association said the safety and well-being of Indian nationals studying abroad must be prioritised amid the unfolding crisis. [KNT]
