ASI, Two Civilians Injured in Budgam Militant Attack

Budgam, July 1, KNT: Three persons including a police officer were injured after unidentified militants opened fire on a police party in the main market area of Pakharpora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday.
According to a police official, the attack took place shortly after congregational prayers when a public gathering was underway in the area. Militants fired upon the police deployment near the Jammu and Kashmir Bank branch, resulting in injuries to an Assistant Sub Inspector and two civilians present at the scene.
The injured police officer was identified as Assistant Sub Inspector Abdul Rasheed. The two civilians sustained multiple injuries in the firing.
Block Medical Officer Pakharpora Dr Neyazi said the injured were initially brought to a local healthcare facility where they were provided first aid before being referred to SMHS Hospital Srinagar for specialised treatment. The injured civilians were identified as Muhammad Ayub Wani, son of Ghulam Muhammad, a local of Pakharpora, and Muhammad Anwar Thokar, son of Habibullah Thokar, a resident of Drabgam in Pulwama district.
Eyewitnesses said security forces immediately cordoned off the area following the incident and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. Additional forces were deployed in the locality to maintain law and order.
No militant outfit had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of filing this report. [KNT]
