Ganderbal, March 26, KNT: A baby boy was safely delivered inside a moving 108 ambulance on Thursday in the Kathnapati–Ganiwan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, officials said.

The incident occurred when the emergency response service received a call regarding a 28-year-old pregnant woman in active labour.

With labour having progressed to an advanced stage and no time to reach a medical facility, the delivery was conducted inside the ambulance while en route, officials said.

The case highlights the critical role of pre-hospital emergency care in remote areas, where distance and terrain often delay access to institutional delivery services.

Emergency Medical Technician Sameer Ahmad Khan carried out the delivery inside the ambulance, while the vehicle was being driven towards a health facility.

Officials said the newborn baby boy was delivered safely with an Apgar score of 8/10, indicating a stable and healthy condition.

Both the mother and the newborn were reported to be stable following the delivery.

After the procedure, they were shifted to Community Health Centre (CHC) Kangan for further medical care and observation.

Health officials said such cases underscore the importance of timely emergency response and trained personnel in handling critical situations outside hospital settings.

Authorities said the 108 ambulance service continues to play a vital role in ensuring emergency medical access across difficult terrains in Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
