Baramulla, April 2, KNT: Baramulla Police on Thursday rejected a review petition filed by Constable Syed Sajad Ahmad and upheld disciplinary action imposed against him in a case involving misconduct with members of the public, officials said.
The constable had sought reconsideration of the punishment, citing personal hardship and expressing remorse. However, authorities said the review did not reveal any new facts or procedural irregularities.
The case relates to the period when the official was posted at Police Post Babareshi, where an internal enquiry found that he had repeatedly taken goods from local shopkeepers without making payment.
Officials said the conduct continued despite prior warnings and was found to be in violation of service norms.
The development highlights accountability mechanisms within the police system, particularly in matters involving public interaction and misuse of position.
Following the enquiry, the department had imposed a penalty of forfeiture of one annual increment for three years.

Officials said the punishment was reviewed and upheld in full, with authorities concluding that the penalty was proportionate to the misconduct established during the enquiry.
There was no indication of any procedural lapse in the original disciplinary process, they added.
Baramulla Police said action had been taken in accordance with rules governing conduct of officials.
Further departmental oversight is expected to continue in similar cases, officials said. [KNT]
