Jammu, March 27, KNT: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators staged a protest on Friday outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, demanding the establishment of a National Law University (NLU) in the Jammu region.

The protest was held during Assembly proceedings, with BJP MLAs raising slogans and pressing the government to respond to what they described as a long-pending demand of students.

The demonstration comes amid growing calls from sections of students and civil society in Jammu for a dedicated National Law University, with the BJP seeking to amplify the issue inside and outside the legislature.

Speaking to reporters, BJP legislator Surjit Singh Slathia said students in Jammu had repeatedly raised the demand for an NLU and accused the government of failing to address their concerns.

“Students in Jammu have protested repeatedly and are demanding that a National Law University be established in Jammu. We also staged a protest today and sought a response from the government,” Slathia said.

He said the demand reflects the aspirations of students seeking better access to legal education within the region. [KNT]
