Jammu, Feb 12, KNT: National Conference MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Thursday termed the continued detention of MLA Mehraj Malik as injustice to the electorates of Doda, saying an elected representative should not be kept away from the Assembly.

Talking to reporters outside the Legislative Assembly, Sadiq said the people of Doda had elected their representative and his continued detention amounts to denial of representation to the constituency. He said it was time to release the MLA and allow him to perform his legislative duties.

On the issue of daily wagers, Sadiq reiterated that their regularization would be carried out in a phased manner. He said Omar Abdullah had already promised to address the issue and the government remains committed to fulfilling that assurance.

Referring to the reservation issue, the MLA said the relevant file is lying with the Ministry of Home Affairs. He questioned Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, who had claimed that no file was stalled, to bring the reservation file back from the MHA and the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

“If he succeeds in bringing the file, we will see how much of a well-wisher he is for the students,” Sadiq said. [KNT]
