Ganderbal, Feb 19, KNT: Ganderbal Police on Thursday conducted a special enforcement drive against unregistered service providers in the Sonamarg tourist area, with a particular focus on photographers operating without valid registration.

Officials said the drive was launched to ensure public safety, maintain order and safeguard the security of the prominent tourist destination. During the operation, 11 unregistered photographers were identified and detained under relevant provisions of Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The detained individuals were subsequently produced before the Executive Magistrate at Gund for further legal proceedings.

Police said the action was taken keeping in view the security sensitivity of the area and the necessity to regulate services offered to tourists in order to prevent inconvenience, exploitation or any untoward incident.

Besides enforcement measures, the police team from Police Station Sonamarg also conducted an awareness exercise in the area. Service providers were sensitised about adhering to a proper code of conduct while dealing with tourists, with emphasis on professionalism, lawful operation and courteous behaviour. [KNT]
