Srinagar, Aug 22, KNT: The holy Chhari Mubarak, the sacred mace associated with the annual Amarnath pilgrimage, left Srinagar for Pahalgam on Saturday, marking the beginning of its traditional journey towards the Amarnath cave.

Custodian of Chhari Mubarak, Mahant Deependra Giri, said the pilgrimage would proceed through the traditional route with symbolic prayers being performed at designated stopovers along the way.

He said the Chhari Mubarak would reach Pahalgam on August 22 and halt at Chandanwari on the night of August 24, followed by a halt at Sheshnag on August 25.

According to the schedule, the holy mace will remain at Panchtarni on August 26 and 27 before proceeding towards the Amarnath cave on the morning of August 28, coinciding with Raksha Bandhan.

At the holy cave, traditional prayers and Vedic chanting will be performed and the Chhari Mubarak will be installed amid the prescribed rituals.

Mahant Deependra Giri said the traditional pilgrimage would continue after the cave rituals, with the Chhari Mubarak returning to Panchtarni for the night halt before proceeding through Sheshnag and Chandanwari to Pahalgam on August 29.
