Srinagar, July 6, KNT: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Monday directed the early operationalization of the proposed Digital Arrest prevention mechanism across Jammu and Kashmir while reviewing the Union Territory’s preparedness to tackle the growing menace of cyber crime and online financial frauds.
The directions were issued during a high-level meeting attended by senior officers from the Home Department, CID, Crime Branch, Information Technology, Law Department and other stakeholder agencies. Officers stationed outside Srinagar participated in the meeting through virtual mode.
Reviewing the progress achieved so far, the Chief Secretary instructed the concerned departments to monitor the implementation of cyber crime prevention measures and the Digital Arrest mechanism on a monthly basis to ensure timely completion of all statutory, administrative and technical formalities.

Expressing concern over the increasing instances of cyber fraud and online financial crimes, Dulloo stressed the need to strengthen institutional capacity through regular training and skill enhancement programmes for officials associated with cyber crime investigation and digital enforcement.
He also called for an extensive public awareness campaign through print, electronic and digital media to educate citizens about emerging cyber threats, including digital arrest scams, online financial frauds and cyber safety measures.
The Chief Secretary observed that public awareness, technological preparedness and close coordination among various departments are essential to effectively combat cyber crime and protect citizens from increasingly sophisticated online frauds.
