Congress Welcomes NC’s Statehood Campaign, Extends Support

Jammu, July 10, KNT: The Congress on Friday welcomed the National Conference’s initiative to mobilize support for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood, saying the party has consistently advocated the issue.
Responding to the National Conference’s decision to invite leaders from different political parties for the proposed July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera told reporters that the Congress has long been raising the demand for the restoration of statehood.
He said Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had earlier written to the Prime Minister seeking restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
Khera further said that when the Congress Working Committee passed a resolution on the issue, the party had appealed to all political parties to join the movement.
“It is good that they are now joining this campaign,” he said, referring to the National Conference’s proposed protest. [KNT]
