Court Issues Arrest Warrant Against SHO Shaheed Gunj in Contempt Case

Srinagar, Mar 28, KNT: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against the Station House Officer of Police Station Shaheed Gunj in a contempt proceeding alleging non-compliance with judicial directions.
The order came during the hearing of a petition filed by Irshad Ahmed Dar through Advocate Babar Qadri. The court directed the Senior Prosecuting Officer to serve the warrant and instructed the SSP Srinagar to ensure execution of the order and produce the SHO before the court on March 29.
The petitioner alleged that his brother, Muhammad Ayoub Dar of Ganistan Sumbal, had been kept in unlawful confinement for over two weeks. According to counsel for the petitioner, the court had earlier directed the SHO to submit a report after a bail application was moved. It was alleged that instead of complying, the SHO tore the court order, prompting initiation of contempt proceedings.
When no response was filed within the stipulated time, the CJM issued the arrest warrant.
Advocate Qadri stated that the SHO subsequently submitted a reply claiming that the detainee had been released after being found innocent in a car theft case. However, the petitioner maintained that the release occurred only after the court issued coercive directions.
The matter is listed for further proceedings before the CJM court. [KNT]
