Doctors, Paramedical Staff Allegedly Assaulted at GMC Baramulla; Resident Doctors Seek Probe
Srinagar, July 20, KNT: Doctors and paramedical staff of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla were allegedly assaulted during an incident on July 18, prompting resident doctors to seek an impartial inquiry, preservation of CCTV footage and enhanced security within the hospital premises.
According to a written representation submitted by the resident doctors to the Principal and Dean of GMC Baramulla, the incident has raised serious concerns over the safety and security of healthcare professionals working at the institution. The doctors have urged the administration to initiate strict action against those responsible and strengthen security arrangements to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The resident doctors have also demanded that CCTV footage related to the incident be preserved and examined to facilitate a fair and transparent investigation.
Meanwhile, health activist and former Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association (AIMSA), Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, expressed solidarity with the resident doctors and urged the GMC Baramulla administration to ensure that the CCTV footage is secured and reviewed without delay.
He also called for the deployment of adequate police personnel and enhanced security measures within the hospital, stating that doctors, nurses and paramedical staff must be able to discharge their professional responsibilities without fear of violence, intimidation or disruption.
Dr Khan appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the Principal of GMC Baramulla to order a time-bound inquiry into the incident, preserve all available electronic evidence and initiate appropriate legal action against those found responsible after due investigation.
“Violence against healthcare workers is unacceptable. Ensuring the safety of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff is essential for uninterrupted healthcare services and for maintaining public confidence in the healthcare system,” he said. [KNT]
