Domestic LPG Price Hiked by Rs 60, Commercial by Rs 115 Across India

New Delhi, March 7, KNT: The price of domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders has been increased by Rs 60 across India with effect from Saturday, raising the cost of a standard 14.2-kg household cooking gas cylinder, sources said.
The hike also applies to commercial LPG cylinders, with the price of a 19-kg cylinder increased by Rs 115, impacting hotels, restaurants and other small commercial establishments that rely on LPG for daily operations.
The increase is expected to impact household budgets as well as commercial users who depend on LPG for cooking and other daily operations.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said there is no shortage of energy in the country and assured consumers that fuel supply remains stable.
“Our priority is to ensure the availability of affordable and sustainable fuel for our citizens, and we are doing it comfortably. There is no shortage of energy in India, and there is no cause of worry for our energy consumers,” the minister said in a post on X.
Indian Oil Corporation also dismissed reports circulating on social media about a shortage of petrol and diesel in the country.
“India has sufficient fuel stocks, and supply and distribution networks are functioning normally. Citizens are requested not to panic or crowd fuel stations and to rely only on official sources for accurate information,” the company said in a statement.
Government sources earlier said India remains in a comfortable position regarding crude oil, petroleum products and LPG supplies despite concerns about possible disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.
Officials said the country currently has access to diversified energy supplies exceeding the volume that could potentially be affected by any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz.
Sources added that India has significantly diversified its crude oil import basket over the past few years. Since 2022, India has been importing crude oil from Russia, with the share increasing steadily.
According to government data, in February India imported around 20 percent of its total crude oil from Russia, amounting to about 1.04 million barrels per day.
On the LPG front, the government has directed refineries to increase production to ensure adequate availability across the country.
Officials said LPG imports from the United States have also begun arriving in India since January under a one-year agreement signed in November 2025 for around 2.2 million tonnes per annum from the US Gulf Coast for the 2026 contract year. [KNT]
