Drone-Delivered Heroin Worth Rs 20 Crore Seized Along RS Pura Border
Jammu, Feb 14, KNT: The Indian Border Security Force and Jammu & Kashmir Police recovered over four kilograms of heroin along the RS Pura sector of the Indo-Pak International Border on Saturday, officials said.
Official sources said the contraband, estimated to be worth more than Rs 20 crore in the international market, had been dropped in two separate consignments by a Pakistani drone. Alert security personnel intercepted the narcotics before they could be retrieved by intended handlers.
Authorities said the seizure underscores the growing use of drones for cross-border smuggling and reflects intensified surveillance along vulnerable stretches of the border. Security agencies have strengthened ground monitoring and technical surveillance to counter the emerging threat of unmanned aerial vehicle-assisted trafficking.
Investigations have been launched to identify local collaborators and dismantle the network facilitating the movement of narcotics into the Union Territory. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the origin of the consignment and apprehend those involved in the smuggling attempt. [KNT]
