Hyderabad Police in India’s Telangana state have busted a racket involved in the sale of counterfeit household products and arrested three persons during a raid conducted by the CCS Special Crime Team.

Officials said the police seized a large quantity of duplicate goods, including 1,340 fake Red Label tea packets, 100 duplicate Taj Mahal tea packets, more than 1,900 packets of counterfeit detergent powders branded as Tide, Ariel, Wheel and Surf Excel, and 3,600 fake Good Night mosquito repellent refills. Authorities also recovered around 9,500 duplicate packing covers and nearly 75 kilograms of raw tea powder used in the illegal operation.

Police identified the accused as Jaya Ram (30) from Begumbazar, Kachhawa Surendera (34) from Dullapally, and Hanuman Ram (21) from Barmer in Rajasthan.

Investigators said the accused were sourcing fake packaging materials and low-quality raw products from Gujarat. The counterfeit goods were then repacked and supplied to retail and wholesale markets in Goshamahal, Afzalgunj, Begumbazar and adjoining areas at discounted rates while being passed off as original branded products.

Hyderabad Police have advised consumers to verify product authenticity by checking QR codes and other security markings before making purchases. [KNT]
