Jammu, March 31, KNT: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary on Tuesday sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for the restoration of security cover to legislators, raising concerns over alleged withdrawal or reduction of protection for elected representatives.
Speaking on the issue, Chowdhary said the Lieutenant Governor, having served as a Union Minister, understands the importance of elected representatives and their role.
He urged the Lieutenant Governor not to rely solely on police inputs while deciding security arrangements for lawmakers.

“Do not listen only to the police. Provide adequate security to elected representatives,” Chowdhary said.
The development is significant as several legislators have raised concerns over changes in their security cover in recent days.
Chowdhary criticized what he described as inconsistencies in the allocation of security, alleging that some individuals with limited public profile continue to receive protection.
“Police have provided security even to those whom even neighbors do not know,” he said.
He also questioned why security cover of retired senior police officers is not reviewed.
“All retired DGs, DIGs and SSPs are enjoying security. Why is their security not downgraded,” he said. [KNT]
