Early School Timing Sparks Parent Backlash in Srinagar

Srinagar, May 1, KNT: The government’s revised school timing has triggered concern among parents in Srinagar, particularly those with children in kindergarten classes, prompting the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir to convene a meeting with stakeholders.
Parents said the new schedule has forced families to begin preparations before dawn, placing strain on young children enrolled in UKG and LKG classes. According to several guardians, school vans are required to arrive well before the official start time, resulting in children waiting for extended periods after getting ready.
Many parents argued that while the administration’s objective of easing morning traffic congestion is understandable, the impact on small children needs reconsideration. They said younger students should either have separate timings or a more practical schedule aligned with their age and routine.
Officials in the education department acknowledged the concerns. Director School Education Kashmir. Mir Tariq told KNT said the administration is aware of the difficulties being faced and confirmed that the Divisional Commissioner has called a meeting with parents to review the issue.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to determine whether the revised schedule will be modified or retained with adjustments. [KNT]
