
Srinagar, June 27, KNT: An earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale jolted the Kashmir Valley on Saturday evening, sending residents rushing out of their homes and offices in panic.
According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at 7:04:51 PM IST. The epicentre was located in Afghanistan at latitude 36.442°N and longitude 70.672°E, with a depth of 215 kilometres.
The tremors were felt across several parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar and other districts. Initial reports indicate that the shaking lasted for a few seconds.
There were no immediate reports of any loss of life or damage to property. Authorities are monitoring the situation, while officials have urged people to remain calm and follow safety advisories in the event of aftershocks.
