Er Rashid Seeks Release of Mourners Detained in Protests
New Delhi, March 9, KNT: Incarcerated Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid, on Sunday appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain peace and restraint during the holy month of Ramzan and urged authorities to release mourners detained during recent protests in the Valley.
In a message addressed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Rashid conveyed Ramzan greetings and prayed for peace, harmony and well-being across the region.
The appeal comes amid recent protests reported in parts of Kashmir following the reported assassination of Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, during which several mourners were detained by authorities.
Rashid said people across the region had expressed grief over the development and many came out on the streets to protest. However, he expressed concern over incidents of violence reported during the demonstrations.
“Violence has no place in any civilized society, particularly in a region like Jammu and Kashmir that has already suffered immense loss and devastation over the past 35 years,” Rashid said in his message.
He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir understand better than anyone the heavy cost of violence and instability, urging them to remain peaceful during the sacred month.
Appealing to the public, Rashid said it is important to ensure that calm prevails across the region during Ramzan.
“Violence only breeds more violence and often gives excuses to those who wish to suppress the genuine voices of the people, while innocent youth and children ultimately become victims of the cycle of revenge,” he said.
The Baramulla MP also appealed to the administration to release mourners who were detained during the protests, describing it as a gesture that could help promote goodwill and brotherhood in the Valley.
He said such a step during Ramzan would send a positive message and help ease tensions among the public.
Highlighting the spiritual significance of Ramzan, Rashid said the holy month teaches patience, tolerance and compassion and urged people to uphold these values in their daily lives.
“Let us preserve the sanctity of Ramzan and work together for peace, dignity and harmony,” he added. [KNT]
