Srinagar, Feb 20, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K on Friday filed a chargesheet in before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar against four accused persons in connection with an alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy case involving a foreign medical admission.

Officials said the case was registered on the basis of a written complaint alleging that the complainant was introduced by his relative to certain consultancy operators who assured facilitation of admission of his son in a medical college in Bangladesh.

During the course of investigation, it surfaced that the complainant was allegedly induced to pay lakhs of rupees on the assurance that the amount would be deposited with Park View Medical College in Bangladesh. However, probe revealed that only USD 8,000, approximately Rs 6.04 lakh as per 2021 exchange rates, was deposited with the institution, while the remaining amount was allegedly misappropriated.

Due to non-payment of the balance fee, the student was reportedly asked to leave the college.

On the basis of bank records, official communication from the medical college and statements recorded during investigation, the allegations against the four accused persons were found substantiated. The investigation has been concluded as proved and the chargesheet has been presented before the competent court for judicial adjudication.

Further proceedings in the matter shall now be conducted before the court concerned. [KNT]
