Shopian, April 3, KNT: Fresh snowfall on the Mughal Road led to the closure of the strategic route connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Poonch in Jammu division on Friday, officials said.
The road was closed following accumulation of snow along higher reaches, making the route unsafe for vehicular movement.
The closure is significant as the Mughal Road serves as an alternate link between Kashmir and Jammu regions, particularly during disruptions on the national highway.
Officials said the decision to suspend traffic was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety amid slippery conditions and reduced visibility.
Snowfall was reported in upper reaches, including areas along the Mughal Road axis, following a spell of rain and cold weather across the region.
Authorities are monitoring the situation and are likely to take a call on reopening the road once weather conditions improve and clearance operations are carried out.
Travelers have been advised to avoid the route and follow official updates. [KNT]
