Fresh Snowfall in Upper Reaches of Shopian, Rains Lash Plains; Mughal Road Remains Open

Shopian, Oct 24, KNT: The upper reaches of Shopian district in south Kashmir received fresh snowfall while rainfall lashed the plains, bringing a noticeable change in weather conditions across the region.
The higher-altitude areas witnessed fresh snow, while intermittent rain in the plains brought cooler conditions. The changing weather has drawn attention to road connectivity, particularly along the mountainous Mughal Road.
Despite fresh snowfall at Pir Ki Gali, the historic Mughal Road, which connects Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts in the Jammu region, remains open for vehicular traffic, according to the information provided.
The Border Roads Organization (BRO), responsible for maintaining the road, has kept its personnel and machinery on standby to respond to potential weather-related challenges and address any snow accumulation or obstruction that may affect traffic movement.
The district administration is also monitoring the prevailing conditions in view of the snowfall in the upper reaches and rainfall in the plains, with vigilance being maintained should the weather deteriorate.
The Mughal Road serves as an important alternative route between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region. However, snowfall and falling temperatures at Pir Ki Gali, one of the highest points along the route, can create difficult driving conditions if snow accumulation increases.
Commuters planning to travel on the road are advised to check the latest traffic advisories and confirm its status with the concerned authorities before starting their journey. [KNT]
