Fresh Spell of Rainfall to Lash Jammu and Kashmir From Tuesday
Srinagar, July 27, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness another spell of rainfall beginning Tuesday, with the Jammu region expected to bear the brunt of the weather activity over the next several days, according to the latest weather forecast.
Weather Department has forecast light to moderate intermittent rainfall across Kashmir Valley, while several districts of the Jammu region, including Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Poonch and Rajouri, are expected to receive moderate to intense rainfall.
The forecast indicates that the weather system will intensify on July 30 and 31, when heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over parts of the Jammu region, particularly the Pir Panjal range and the Chenab Valley.
Authorities have been advised to remain alert as the prevailing weather conditions could trigger flash floods, mudslides, landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable locations. There is also a possibility of isolated cloudburst incidents, especially in mountainous areas.
The expected rainfall may disrupt surface transport, with the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) likely to remain vulnerable to temporary closures due to landslides and shooting stones, particularly in the Ramban-Udhampur sector. Other arterial and link roads in hilly districts may also witness traffic disruptions.
The forecast suggests an improvement in weather conditions on August 1 and 2. However, another spell of rainfall is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir on August 3 and 4.
Authorities have advised people, particularly those living near rivers, streams, nallahs and landslide-prone slopes, to remain vigilant and follow official weather advisories. Travellers have also been urged to check the status of highways and other roads before undertaking journeys during the forecast period. [KNT]
