Budgam, April 24, KNT: Union Minister for Labour and Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said the labour class had long been ignored in the past, but the present government believes that the progress and development of the nation is only possible through the contribution of workers.
He said the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prioritised the welfare of labourers across the country.
Mandaviya stated that when the Modi government came to power in 2014, around 7 crore people were receiving ESIC benefits, and today the number has increased to 14 crore beneficiaries.
He said a strong healthcare system is essential so that people can receive timely treatment, adding that labourers often cannot afford expensive medical care and the financial burden impacts entire families.
The Union Minister said the government has introduced reforms to ensure workers and their families receive treatment support ranging from Re 1 to Rs 1 crore under various schemes.
He also announced that a nursing college will be established at the ESIC Hospital in the coming time, and that nursing training facilities will soon be started there.
On India’s bid for the 2036 Olympics, Mandaviya said the government is committed to providing facilities and opportunities so that youth can engage in and excel in sports. [KNT]
