Anantnag, July 1, KNT: Suspected militants hurled a grenade at a police post in the Sherbagh area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag town on Friday, triggering panic in the locality.

Officials said the grenade exploded with a loud blast near the police installation, causing alarm among people in the vicinity. However, no casualties or damage to property were reported in the incident.

Eyewitnesses said shopkeepers downed shutters briefly as the sound of the explosion reverberated across the area. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned off the locality to prevent any further incident.

A search operation was launched in and around Sherbagh to trace those involved in the attack. Additional deployment was made to maintain order and reassure locals.

No militant outfit had claimed responsibility for the grenade attack at the time of filing this report. [KNT]
