Jammu, June 15, KNT: Himachal Pradesh Governor and senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta on Monday voiced concern over the reported situation in Pakistan-held Kashmir, alleging a lack of democratic rights and calling for greater international attention to the issues faced by people living in the region.
Speaking to reporters, Gupta said the world should be made aware of the conditions prevailing across the Line of Control and the concerns repeatedly raised by residents of Pakistan-held Kashmir.
He alleged that democratic institutions were weak in the region and claimed that people were living under conditions comparable to martial law.
The Governor further alleged that human rights violations were taking place and said the international community should take cognizance of the situation.
“The world should know what is happening there and what kind of circumstances people are living in,” Gupta said while stressing the need for greater awareness of the issue.
Referring to India’s long-standing position on Kashmir, Gupta reiterated that the entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, including the territory under Pakistan’s control, is an integral part of India.
His remarks come amid continuing political and diplomatic discussions surrounding developments in Pakistan-held Kashmir and recurring concerns raised by various Indian political leaders regarding governance and rights issues in the region. [KNT]
