Jammu, Feb 25, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau has registered a disproportionate assets case against Vijay Singh Choudhary, Inspector in J&K Police, following a verification that allegedly revealed possession of assets far beyond his known sources of income.
Officials said the verification was initiated on the basis of specific inputs regarding accumulation of substantial properties by the officer while posted at different locations. The inquiry reportedly found that assets amounting to crores of rupees were raised over time and were highly disproportionate to his legitimate earnings.
According to the ACB, more than 10 immovable properties in the form of houses, shops and land measuring around 100 kanals were identified, allegedly acquired in his name as well as in the names of family members, relatives and other associates.
On the basis of the verification, a prima facie case under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was found to be made out. Accordingly, FIR No. 02/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Central and investigation was taken up.
During the course of investigation, search warrants were obtained from the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Jammu. Searches were subsequently conducted at multiple locations including his residential house at Santokh Vihar, Kaluchak in Jammu, another residence at Nonial in Nowshera, Rajouri, and business establishments including a stone crusher and tile factory at Tutte di Khui, Bajalta, Jammu.
Further searches were also carried out at additional locations in Jammu under Section 185 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita based on leads that emerged during investigation.
ACB officials said incriminating documents were recovered and seized during the searches. Further investigation in the case is underway. [KNT]
