New Delhi, April 6, KNT: Dr. Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the All India Medical Students Association, has sought urgent intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs regarding the detention of a Kashmiri nurse in Saudi Arabia, raising concern over lack of communication with his family.
The appeal relates to Amjad Ali Bhat, a resident of Pattan in Baramulla district, who was working as a Nurse Specialist in Dammam. According to AIMSA, he was detained by Saudi Civil Defence Forces on March 25, 2026.
The case assumes significance as the family and employer have reportedly not received any official information about his whereabouts or the charges against him since the day of detention, prompting concerns over his safety and legal status.
AIMSA said the detention followed a social media post described as a tributary message for Ayatollah Ali Hosseini Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, though no formal confirmation of charges has been communicated to the family.
Dr. Momin Khan urged the MEA and the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to take immediate steps to establish contact with the detained individual and ensure his well-being.
“This prolonged lack of communication is deeply distressing for the family. We request MEA and the Indian Embassy to take immediate steps to ascertain Amjad’s safety and secure his release,” he said.
The organization also assured support to the family and called for swift diplomatic engagement to resolve the matter.
The development highlights concerns over communication gaps in cases involving Indian nationals working abroad and underscores the role of diplomatic channels in ensuring consular access and legal clarity.[KNT]
