Srinagar, March 9, KNT: The Meteorological Department has forecast generally cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir from March 10 to March 12, with light rainfall expected in the plains and light snowfall likely over higher reaches at several places.

According to the MeT Department, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy during the three-day period, with intermittent precipitation affecting many parts of the Union Territory.

Officials said higher altitude areas of north and central Kashmir are likely to witness more significant snowfall during this period.

“A few higher reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Anantnag districts may receive moderate snowfall between March 10 and March 12,” the Meteorological Department said in its forecast.

The expected snowfall in these mountainous areas may temporarily affect movement along some higher passes and remote roads, though no major disruption has been predicted so far.

The MeT Department has also issued an advisory for farmers across Jammu and Kashmir in view of the expected wet weather conditions.

Authorities have advised farmers to suspend farm operations during the forecast period to avoid potential losses due to rainfall and snowfall.

Officials said a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures is also expected across several areas of the Union Territory during the period.

“Day temperatures are likely to fall by around 4 to 6 degrees Celsius at many places due to the cloudy conditions and precipitation,” the department said.

The drop in temperature may bring a brief return of colder conditions, particularly in the Kashmir Valley and higher altitude regions where snowfall is expected.

The MeT said the cloud cover and precipitation may also reduce visibility in some areas, especially in mountainous regions during snowfall.

Locals in higher altitude areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow local advisories issued by authorities, particularly those planning travel in snow-prone regions.

The Meteorological Department said it will continue to monitor the weather situation and issue further updates if required. [KNT]
