Jammu, April 4, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Friday held consultations with industrial and trade bodies to assess the impact of the ongoing West Asia crisis on business activity in the Union Territory.
The meeting, chaired by Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Vikramjit Singh, focused on disruptions linked to the evolving energy situation and its effect on industrial and service sectors.
The interaction assumes significance as concerns grow over supply chains and fuel availability, with industries seeking clarity on how the crisis could affect operations.
Singh told participants that a temporary mismatch between energy supply and demand had emerged due to the situation, adding that efforts were underway at the central level to tap alternative sources.
He said district administrations have been tasked to coordinate with oil marketing companies, and units facing specific issues can approach Deputy Commissioners or designated nodal officers.
The Commissioner Secretary also said directions have been issued to clear pending payments to micro, small and medium enterprises on priority.
At the same time, he cautioned industrial units against black marketing or spreading rumours, warning that any such activity would invite strict action.
Industry representatives raised concerns over transportation and movement of goods, particularly horticulture produce and finished items, to which Singh said the matter would be taken up with the Railways.
He also said issues related to credit and capital assistance would be addressed through the Union Territory Level Bankers’ Committee.
Singh urged stakeholders to avoid panic and said the government was expediting infrastructure for piped natural gas to strengthen energy availability.
He also stressed that wages of workers should not be delayed during the current situation.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various industry bodies and senior officials from the department. KNT]
