Kathua, July 11, KNT: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Mohita Sharma, has dismissed a Selection Grade Constable from service after he remained absent from duty without authorization for more than two-and-a-half years.
The dismissed official, Bachan Sharma, a resident of Dhaloti in Kathua district, was posted at the District Police Lines (DPL), Kathua. According to police, he stopped reporting for duty on November 10, 2023, and remained absent despite repeated opportunities to resume his duties.
Police said the department made sustained efforts to secure his return by issuing notices, summons and show-cause communications, besides publishing public notices. However, the constable neither rejoined duty nor offered any satisfactory explanation for his prolonged absence.
A departmental inquiry held the official guilty of wilfully abandoning duty, describing his conduct as a grave breach of discipline and misconduct unbecoming of a member of the police force.
Taking a serious view of the findings, the SSP invoked the relevant provisions of the J&K Police Manual and ordered his dismissal from service with effect from November 10, 2023, the date from which he was marked absent.
The order further directs the dismissed official to return all government-issued articles and obtain a No Demand Certificate (NDC). Police said failure to comply with the directions would invite legal action in accordance with law. [KNT]
