Pattan, July 4, KNT: The body of a two-year-old girl, who had been missing for nearly two weeks, was recovered from a well in the Pattan area of north Kashmir on Thursday, police said.

The deceased was identified as Zeenat Ashraf, daughter of Mohammad Ashraf Rather. She had reportedly gone missing while returning home from a nearby locality, prompting a search by family members and police.

According to officials, the body was recovered in a decomposed condition from a well belonging to a local resident, Abdul Rahim Shah.

The girl’s father alleged that his daughter had been murdered, claiming that blood-stained clothes were found near the well. He appealed to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and bring those responsible to justice.

Police said investigations were underway and that the exact cause of death would be determined after receiving the post-mortem report and expert opinion.

Station House Officer, Pattan, said a case had already been registered under FIR No. 156/2013 under Section 363 RPC, and further investigation into the incident was in progress. [KNT]
