New Delhi, March 20, KNT: Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar on Thursday said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government had failed to deliver justice to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and had repeatedly disappointed them.

His remarks came a day after Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was better than the UPA with regard to addressing the Kashmir issue.

Speaking to a Srinagar-based news gathering agency, Kashmir News TRust, Javadekar alleged that the UPA government had consistently “ditched” the people of Kashmir and had used the region for political purposes.

“The UPA government failed to deliver justice with regard to Kashmir. It not only ditched the people of Kashmir but the people of Jammu and Ladakh as well,” Javadekar told KNT.

He said the ruling alliance at the Centre viewed the people of Jammu and Kashmir only in terms of electoral calculations.

“The UPA government thinks of the people of Kashmir merely as a vote bank and its only motive is to play politics,” he said.

Javadekar further said that people in Jammu and Kashmir had witnessed what he described as the “ugly face” of the UPA government and were seeking political change.

Responding to a query, the BJP spokesperson said Modi had already clarified his stand on the Kashmir issue during his address to people in Jammu.

“Whatever Narendra Modi has said in his address to the people at Jammu would be implemented in letter and spirit,” Javadekar said. [KNT]
