President of India Unveils Bust of Rajagopalachari

New Delhi, Feb 23, KNT: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday unveiled a bust of Chakravarti Rajagopalachari at the Grand Open Staircase near Ashok Mandap in Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking a commemorative initiative dedicated to one of India’s foremost statesmen.
Rajagopalachari, widely known as Rajaji, was the last Governor General of India and played a prominent role in the freedom movement and early years of the Republic.
The President also attended the opening segment of “Rajaji Utsav,” a commemorative programme at Rashtrapati Bhavan. As part of the observance, an exhibition showcasing Rajaji’s life, writings and political contributions will be open to visitors from February 24 to March 1, 2026.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the initiative as an effort to honour figures who shaped the nation’s course and said Rajagopalachari’s public life reflected scholarship, administrative acumen and commitment to national service.
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister referred to Rajaji as a freedom fighter and intellectual whose legacy continues to influence public life. He also encouraged citizens to visit the exhibition and engage with the historical material on display.
The unveiling forms part of a broader series of commemorative efforts highlighting leaders associated with India’s independence and constitutional development. [KNT]
