Shopian April 4, KNT: Fish were found dead in large numbers in Vurnag Spring in the Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district, raising concerns among local residents.

Locals said the fish deaths were noticed over the past day, with several carcasses seen floating in the spring water.

The incident has triggered anxiety among inhabitants, who fear possible contamination of the water body and its impact on the local ecosystem.

Villagers alleged that no official from the concerned department had visited the site to ascertain the cause of the deaths.

“There has been no visit from any department so far. We are worried about what caused this,” a local told the news agency Kashmir News Trust.

The spring is a known local water source, and the sudden fish mortality has raised questions about water quality and environmental conditions.

Locals have appealed to the government to immediately look into the matter and conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the mass fish deaths.

They also urged authorities to take necessary measures to prevent further damage to the water body. [KNT]
