Srinagar, May 2, KNT: Police destroyed large patches of illegal poppy cultivation in multiple areas of Srinagar on Saturday as part of an ongoing crackdown on narcotics-linked activities, officials said.

The action was carried out in Kenihama, Tengan, Golpora, and Mujgund, where teams identified and removed illicit crops from agricultural land. The destruction was conducted on site in line with legal procedures.

The operation took place in the presence of Executive Magistrate BK Pora, along with police personnel and local officials, who oversaw the process.

Officials said the effort is aimed at curbing the supply chain at its source by targeting cultivation. Similar actions have been carried out in vulnerable pockets in recent months.

Police urged people to report any information related to drug cultivation or trafficking, saying public cooperation remains important for sustained enforcement.

Further drives are expected in other areas as part of continued action against narcotics-related activities. [KNT]
