Movement Allowed on NH44 in Both Directions Tomorrow, LMVs Allowed on Mughal Road
Srinagar, March 10, KNT: The Traffic Police Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday issued a traffic plan and advisory for March 11, outlining vehicle movement on major highways including the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH44), Srinagar–Leh road and Mughal Road.
Officials said traffic movement was slow on NH44 on March 9 and 10 due to single-lane traffic between Marog and Kishtwari Pather following breakdown of vehicles.
The advisory said light motor vehicles, passenger vehicles and private cars will be allowed to ply from both sides on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway on Wednesday, subject to fair weather and better road conditions.
Officials said vehicles will be permitted from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa in a regulated manner coordinated by the Traffic Control Unit Ramban.
Security forces convoy movement will also be allowed on the highway depending on road and weather conditions.
On the Srinagar–Leh highway, traffic from Sonamarg towards Kargil had remained suspended due to slippery road conditions caused by snowfall.
However, officials said vehicles carrying stranded passengers and light motor vehicles will be allowed to move from Srinagar towards Kargil via Sonamarg–Gumri road.
Traffic from Sonamarg towards Kargil will continue to be restricted for regular movement due to ongoing road maintenance.
Authorities said vehicles will be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil only after 1500 hours following clearance by maintenance agencies.
On Mughal Road, light motor vehicles and passenger vehicles will be allowed from Shopian towards Poonch and vice versa subject to fair weather and road conditions.
Officials said passenger and private vehicles will move from Shopian towards Poonch between 1100 hours and 1500 hours.
Traffic authorities have advised passengers and operators of light motor vehicles to undertake journeys on the Jammu–Srinagar highway during daytime and avoid travelling at night.
They also cautioned drivers against overtaking and wrong lane driving, urging commuters to follow lane discipline to prevent accidents and congestion.
Motorists have been advised to check the status of roads from traffic control units before starting their journey. [KNT]
