‘No Written Order, No End to Protest’: Medical Interns Continue Stipend Hike Agitation Across J&K

Srinagar, Oct 21, KNT: Medical interns continued their agitation across all Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Jammu and Kashmir and SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, on Wednesday, with the All India Medical Students’ Association (AIMSA) insisting that the protest would not be called off until the government issues a formal written order confirming the stipend hike.
AIMSA representatives Dr Danish Ali and Dr Farhan of GMC Srinagar and Dr Jabran Khan of GMC Rajouri reiterated that verbal assurances would not suffice, maintaining that the interns would continue their agitation until the written order was formally issued.
The association said its Joint Secretary, Dr Akib Javid, had received a call from the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Tuesday regarding the stipend hike. While acknowledging the communication, AIMSA said it would not treat the call as a substitute for an official government order.
AIMSA President Dr Mohammad Momin Khan said repeated delays and assurances had eroded the interns’ trust in verbal commitments. He maintained that the association would stand by its demand until the written order was issued to the interns.
The association urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to complete the remaining formalities without further delay and fulfil its commitment to MBBS and BDS interns. It said the agitation would continue peacefully across the medical colleges and SKIMS Bemina until the demand was met. [KNT]
