Srinagar, Feb 17, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday thanked Union Home Minister Amit Shah for facilitating the reopening of 11 tourist destinations that had remained closed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre in Srinagar, Omar said the Home Minister had assured him during a recent visit to Jammu that the matter would be reviewed and the destinations reopened.
“He had assured me when he came to Jammu that he would look into the issue of the closed tourist spots. These destinations are now open, and I am thankful to him for taking the right decision,” Omar said.
He expressed hope that the reopening would provide much-needed relief to the tourism sector, which he said had suffered due to prolonged closures. Omar added that he had raised the issue with the Home Minister during a meeting in New Delhi as well.
He reiterated that during his tenure, tourist destinations were never closed even during periods of turmoil, underscoring the importance of maintaining visitor confidence.
Omar said the reopening of the 11 sites is expected to revive local economic activity and restore momentum to the region’s tourism industry. [KNT]
