Over 5.70 Lakh Category Certificates Issued in J&K Since Jan 2025

Srinagar, Oct 1: KNT: More than 5.70 lakh category certificates were issued across Jammu and Kashmir between January 2025 and August 1, 2026, with Jammu division accounting for nearly 4.84 lakh of the total, the Legislative Assembly was informed.

According to the Social Welfare Department, 4,84,202 category certificates were issued in Jammu division during the period, while 86,198 were issued in Kashmir division, taking the combined total to 5,70,400.

The department also reported 49,953 rejected applications in Jammu division and 11,316 in Kashmir division.

The government said there were no cases during the period in which individuals were found to have obtained category certificates through misrepresentation of facts or fraud.

The figures were furnished in response to a question raised by Handwara MLA Sajad Gani Lone.

The disclosure comes amid continuing discussion in the Assembly over reservation and category certification, including the government’s position on reservation-related matters. [KNT]
