Registrar General Reviews Preparations for Census 2027 in J&K, Ladakh

Jammu, March 9, KNT: Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan on Monday reviewed preparations for the upcoming Census 2027 during a visit to the Directorate of Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh at Trikuta Nagar in Jammu.
The visit focused on assessing the readiness of the Directorate for conducting census-related processes and training workshops across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh to ensure the smooth conduct of the national population enumeration exercise.
Census officials said the Directorate has begun planning administrative and logistical arrangements required for the large-scale data collection process that will cover households across the two Union Territories.
During the visit, Director Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh Amit Sharma briefed the Registrar General about the functioning and ongoing activities of the Directorate.
Officials said Narayan interacted with senior officers and staff members of the Directorate and reviewed their roles and responsibilities in the implementation of the census process.
He emphasized the importance of conducting the Census with careful planning, vigilance and strong institutional mechanisms to ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
Narayan also highlighted the significance of training field-level officials who will be deployed in different districts for the enumeration process during Census 2027.
Officials said discussions were also held regarding awareness workshops and publicity campaigns aimed at informing the general public about the importance of the census exercise.
According to officials, such outreach initiatives are intended to connect people with the national exercise, which forms the basis for development planning and formulation of social policies at the national level.
Earlier during the visit, the Registrar General inaugurated several facilities for the welfare of employees, including a Census e-library, a medical room and a canteen at the Directorate office.
Senior officers and staff of the Directorate of Census Operations Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh were present during the visit. [KNT]
