Srinagar, March 10, KNT: President of the People’s Democratic Front and former minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen on Tuesday urged the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs to take immediate steps to bring back students from Jammu and Kashmir who remain stranded in Iran and other parts of West Asia amid prevailing uncertainty in the region.

The appeal comes amid growing concern among families in Kashmir as several students studying in Iran continue to remain stuck abroad, with parents seeking clarity on their safety and return.

In a statement, Yaseen said many families in the valley were passing through anxiety as their children remained stranded in a foreign country.

He said despite the passage of nearly ten days, no concrete action had been taken so far to ensure the safe return of the students.

“The parents of these students are extremely worried and are constantly seeking information about the safety of their wards. Unfortunately, nothing substantial has been done on the ground so far,” Yaseen said.

He urged the government to treat the issue as a humanitarian matter and take urgent steps to evacuate the stranded students without further delay.

Yaseen said the authorities should arrange special flights and necessary logistical support to facilitate the safe and timely return of the students.

He added that students studying abroad represent the future of the country and the government has a responsibility to safeguard their well-being during such situations.

According to him, many of the stranded students belong to modest families in Jammu and Kashmir who are already under mental stress due to the uncertain situation.

“The government must act swiftly and responsibly. Mere assurances are not enough when the lives and safety of our youth are at stake,” he said.

Yaseen also urged the administration to establish proper communication channels with the families so that they remain informed about steps being taken for the students’ evacuation.

He reiterated that the safe return of the stranded students should be treated as a priority in view of the prevailing tensions and concerns among their families. [KNT]
