Police Arrest Alleged Liquor, Drug Supplier in South Kashmir’s Qazigund

Qazigund, January 7, KNT: Police on Wednesday said they arrested an alleged liquor and drug supplier in Qazigund area of South Kashmir after recovering 2,800 bottles of illicit liquor from his possession during a raid.
The accused has been identified as Ghulam Rasool Bhat, son of Muhammad Subhan, a resident of Chekyour Khushipora in Qazigund.
Police said the accused was arrested after a team raided his temporary shop in Qazigund and seized the liquor bottles stored there.
According to police officials, the man allegedly supplied illicit liquor and drugs to youth, hotel owners and other people in different parts of South Kashmir.
Station House Officer Qazigund Reyaz Ahmed said that the accused has been involved in similar offences in the past and multiple cases have already been registered against him.
“The accused used to supply liquor to youth and hotel owners. There are already two FIRs registered against him,” the SHO said.
Police records show that the accused was first arrested in 2002 when a large quantity of fukki, a form of narcotic substance, was recovered from his possession.
He was again arrested in 2013 after police recovered around 7,500 bottles of illicit liquor from his residence during another operation.
Investigations revealed that the accused allegedly engaged in supplying liquor and drugs in order to make quick money, police officials said.
Police added that cases under FIR numbers 44/2002, 136/2013 and 3/2015 under sections 48 and 50 of the Excise Act have been registered against the accused at Police Station Qazigund.
Officials said the accused will be produced before a court and further legal proceedings will follow.
Police said strict action would be pursued in the case as part of efforts to curb the spread of drugs and illegal liquor among the youth in the region. [KNT]
