Budgam, July 25, KNT: Several people have reportedly fallen ill in Jawalapora village of central Kashmir’s Budgam district after consuming contaminated water allegedly supplied through the area’s public distribution network, sparking concern among residents over the safety of drinking water.
Locals alleged that instead of receiving treated water from designated reservoirs, pipelines have been connected to nearby streams and other polluted water bodies, resulting in filthy and unsafe water being supplied directly to households.
They said the contaminated water has caused health problems among several residents, while the entire village continues to face an acute shortage of potable drinking water.

People alleged that repeated appeals to the concerned authorities have failed to yield any tangible results, forcing families to either consume unsafe water or arrange drinking water through private means.
Demanding urgent intervention, the villagers urged the Jal Shakti Department and district administration to immediately restore the supply of safe, treated drinking water, disconnect pipelines from contaminated sources and conduct a thorough inspection of the water supply system to prevent any further health risks.
