Pulwama, March 31, KNT: A Special Anti-Corruption Court in Pulwama has convicted five persons in a case related to fraudulent appointment in government service, officials said on Tuesday.

The court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Pulwama, Dr Noor Mohamad Mir, delivered the judgment in a case pertaining to a fake appointment as a teacher in a government school in the district.

The case is significant as it relates to alleged corruption in public sector recruitment and the use of forged documents to secure government employment.

The convicted persons have been identified as Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, Bashir Ahmad Shah, Syed Showkeen Andrabi, Mohammad Ashraf Khan and Hamida Akhter.

According to the prosecution, the case dates back to 1998 when information was received that Hamida Akhter had fraudulently secured a position as a teacher at Government High School Goripora in Pulwama.

Officials said the appointment was facilitated through the involvement of other accused persons, leading to registration of a case under relevant provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act and the Ranbir Penal Code.

Following investigation, a chargesheet was filed in October 2000, and the case proceeded for trial.

The court, after hearing the matter, convicted the accused under multiple sections related to corruption, forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.

The convicts have been sentenced to terms of imprisonment along with fines under various provisions of law, officials said.

The judgment comes after prolonged judicial proceedings spanning over two decades.

Officials said the conviction reflects continued efforts to address corruption in public service and ensure accountability.

Further details regarding execution of the sentence are awaited. [KNT]
