Srinagar, April 8, KNT: Minister for Education, Social Welfare, Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday interacted with members of the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports during their two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.
During the interaction, the minister presented an overview of measures undertaken by the government to enhance quality, accessibility, and inclusivity in the education sector across the Union Territory.
The engagement focused on aligning the region’s academic framework with national priorities while expanding institutional capacity and access to education.
Itoo highlighted reforms aimed at improving academic infrastructure, promoting research and innovation, strengthening faculty development programs, and expanding digital learning facilities across schools, colleges, and universities.
She said efforts are underway to modernize school and college campuses, introduce industry-oriented courses, and promote skill-based education to improve student employability.
The minister also emphasized equitable access to education, stating that targeted initiatives are being implemented for students from remote and underserved areas through scholarship schemes, upgraded facilities, and improved connectivity.
Members of the Parliamentary Committee appreciated the progress in the higher education sector and held detailed discussions on challenges, opportunities, and future strategies for academic growth.
The deliberations focused on improving research output, fostering innovation-driven learning, and strengthening institutional governance mechanisms.
Itoo reiterated that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains committed to strengthening academic standards, encouraging innovation, and building a learner-centric environment aimed at supporting youth and contributing to socio-economic development. [KNT]
