Srinagar, March 28, KNT: Traffic Police in Anantnag have traced and penalized two scooty riders after a video showing them engaged in rash and stunt driving surfaced on social media, officials said on Saturday.

The action followed efforts by a team working under the supervision of SSP Traffic Ravinder Pal Singh, with DySP Traffic Anantnag Muhammad Aslam leading the operation along with the district traffic staff.

Officials said the riders were identified after “hectic efforts,” and both vehicles involved in the incident were traced.

The violators were identified as Basit Farooq, son of Farooq Ah Mir, and Muhammad Salik, son of Nazir Ahmed Sofi, both residents of Nai Basti Khanabal.

Police said the two were seen driving in a manner that was not only dangerous to the public but could have resulted in a fatal road accident.

“The violators not only breached traffic norms but also created nuisance on the road,” an official said.

Following identification, the riders were summoned to the office of DySP Traffic Anantnag, where they were counselled about traffic rules and the risks associated with reckless driving.

Authorities said both were subsequently challaned under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against traffic violations, particularly those that endanger public safety, and urged citizens to adhere to road safety norms. [KNT]
