Shopian MLA Alleges Backdoor Entry Scam, Targets ‘Political Mafia,’ to Meet LG

Srinagar, May 31, KNT: Independent MLA from Shopian Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay on Sunday levelled serious allegations against the functioning of the present government, claiming to have approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) over alleged backdoor entries and financial irregularities while accusing the administration of sidelining elected representatives and neglecting the Shopian district.
The remarks assume political significance as Kullay is among the independent legislators who have extended support to the government, with his sharp criticism reflecting apparent discontent over governance and administrative functioning.
Addressing a press conference, Kullay alleged that a major recruitment-related scam was operating within the system and claimed that money was being exchanged in connection with alleged backdoor appointments.
“I have lodged a complaint with the Anti-Corruption Bureau regarding backdoor entries and money transactions. It is a big scam and I have proof,” Kullay told reporters.
The MLA said that he has all documentary proof about what he described as a ‘big political scam’.
Kullay further alleged that Shopian district was being deliberately ignored and questioned why official review exercises were not being conducted there.

He claimed that review meetings linked to governance and development were largely confined to Sakina Itoo’s DH Pora Block and objected to a recent review meeting held in Pulwama instead of Shopian.
According to Kullay, elected representatives were not invited to the meeting while defeated candidates and National Conference workers were present.
“It was not a government review meeting but a party workers’ meeting,” he alleged.
The legislator as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust also alleged that even ruling party legislators lacked meaningful participation in decision-making and were unable to influence government functioning.
He said he intended to meet Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and apprise him of what he described as shortcomings in the functioning of the administration.
Kullay argued that governance must remain institutional and inclusive, saying the government should function through established administrative mechanisms and equal participation of elected representatives. [KNT]
