Shopping complex gutted in overnight fire in Ganderbal’s Wakura
Ganderbal, Sep 22, KNT: A shopping complex was gutted in an overnight fire in the Wakura area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, damaging six shops and rooms on the second floor of the building.
The fire broke out suddenly in the shopping complex, triggering panic in the area as flames engulfed the upper portion of the building.
Local residents and Fire and Emergency Service teams from Batwina and Safapora rushed to the spot after receiving information about the blaze and launched a firefighting operation.
The teams managed to contain the fire and prevented the flames from spreading to other parts of the complex and nearby structures.
A Fire and Emergency Service official said six shops and rooms on the second floor were gutted in the blaze.
Goods and equipment worth lakhs of rupees kept inside the shops were reduced to ashes, according to preliminary information.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Wakura is an administrative block in Ganderbal district, with Batwina among its panchayats. [KNT]
