SIA Conducts Searches at Nine Locations in J&K Over 1990 Killing of Father-Son Duo
Srinagar, Aug 12, KNT: More than three decades after Kashmiri poet and scholar Sarwanand Koul Premi and his son Virender Koul were abducted from their home and killed in 1990, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) Kashmir on Wednesday conducted searches at nine locations across Jammu and Kashmir as part of the investigation into the double murder.
The searches were carried out at six locations in Rajouri district, two in Jammu and one in Kashmir, according to reports citing officials familiar with the operation. The case, originally registered at Police Station Dooru in Anantnag, is now being investigated by the SIA.
The searches are aimed at pursuing leads and gathering evidence in a case that has remained unresolved for decades. Details regarding the persons whose premises were searched and whether anything was recovered were not immediately available.
Premi and his son, residents of Soaf Shali village in Kokernag, were abducted from their home in 1990 and subsequently killed. Premi was known as a poet, scholar and writer and had been associated with efforts promoting communal harmony and social unity. [KNT]
